Nine years ago, the Aqua-Adventures team of teachers began running beach camps at 15th Street in Del Mar. Some of us were surfers; some of us were ocean swimmers. Yet we had a few things in common: the love of the ocean, a background in child development, and the awareness that positive childhood memories can last a lifetime.

Today, our goals are to teach beach skills while we foster friendship and team skills. Aqua-Adventures’ counselors are trained to provide a physically and emotionally safe environment at the beach, where kids can have fun while they learn and experience ocean safety. We offer choices of well-rounded activities that will strengthen our campers near and in the ocean.

Appropriate activities can be chosen based on weather and water conditions. Whether they choose to boogie board or surf, they are becoming stronger ocean athletes. Boogie boarding skills prepare and strengthen surf skills through paddling practice, water flow experience, wave timing, board balance, and rules of ocean etiquette.

Surfing skills are taught initially, one instructor to one student. Once the child has progressed, they are allowed to surf on their own with a ratio of 3 campers to one instructor. Sand structure building and beach games provide out-of-the-water activities that promote creativity, team-building, and just plain fun. Campers will learn specific skills to mold sand into art. They can create sand structures individually or have a blast as a team.

Camp Information:

Aqua Adventures offers Beach and Surf Camps that are great for beginners to learn about the ocean, meet new friends, try out boogie boarding, swimming and achieving the great feeling of standing up on a surfboard for the first time! Our staff of instructors make it fun while your child learns about surfing and the ocean. Our campers are in small groups with an average of 1 caring, qualified counselor for 4 campers.

A Typical Day At Camp:

9:30 am to 10:00 am- Getting to Know You & Learning Time. Mini-Lessons in Team Building, Environmental Awareness, Water Safety, Land Surf Instruction

10:00 am to 10:30 am- Down to the water (Kids get some choices here). One-on-one Surf Lessons begin (optional). Older surfers who “test out” can surf three kids to one instructor. The rest of the team can play sand games, sand-structure, and/or boogie-board. Older children who “test-out” can be escorted out with an advanced swimming counselor (one-on-one) to practice deeper water swimming and/or bodysurfing. Some days activities may include relay races, Frisbee, bocce-ball, volleyball, scavenger hunts, hiking, or park-play.

10:45 am- 11:00 am- Snack Time - We do not provide snacks. We recommend that you send your child with a substantial snack like fresh fruit and/or nuts. At this time, we reapply sunscreen, and encourage campers to drink water.

11:00 am to 12:30 pm- Back down to the water for more surfing, boogie-boarding and beach fun.

12:30 pm to 1:00pm- Lunchtime & Games, & hunts

1:00 pm- Pick up for morning session and drop off for afternoon session

Note: We provide alternative activities for increment weather days or for full day campers which includes optional art/crafts.

Safety:

Aqua Adventures take safety very seriously. Part of our camps and lessons stress how to avoid accidents in and out of the water. Rip tides, sea life, and to be aware of your surroundings are ways to avoid mishaps. Our instructors are all CPR certified and are experienced swimmers and surfers. Lifeguards are always on the beach for any emergency.

1. Each counselor has a team of four campers that becomes their own “family.” (4:1 ratio)

2. Counselors are with campers at all times.

3. Surfing is one-on-one for all beginning surfers.

4. All surfing is taught on safe, soft foam boards.

5. Campers are in front of the lifeguard tower while in the water.

6. Campers are in shallow water at all times.

7. Our staff is CPR/First Aid Certified.

8. An adult supervisor is on staff at all times.

9. Sunscreen is applied at snack and lunchtime.

Locations:

Aqua Adventures offers camps and lessons at some beautiful North County beaches. Our locations are great for beginners to learn to surf as well as enjoy other fun activities like sandcastle making, boogie boarding, swimming and hanging out with new friends . Below are the beaches that we set up camps.

• Del Mar (15th St.)

• Moonlight Beach (north side)

*we also go to other beaches for private lessons or group lessons

Pricing:

$285 @ 3.5 hrs/day for 5 days (sessions a or b)  //  $200 @ 5 hrs/day for 3 days (session e)
$370 @ 5 hrs/day for 5 days (session c)   //   $225 @ 5 hrs/day for 3 days (session d)

GROUP DISCOUNT: $15/camper for 2-3 registrants; $30/camper for 4 or more registrants

Before or after camp hours  – Craft and Play Downtime Fun, 8:00-9:30am and 2:30-5:30pm, $10/hour   Group Discounts Available

Equipment:

Aqua Adventures used soft surfboards that are great for beginners. We also have boogie boards. we do not have wetsuits so if your child gets cold fast you might want to get him or her a wetsuit in addition to swim trunks or bathing suits.
